Barbara has always used watercolour in her sketchbooks. She draws with paint, recording shapes, structures and colours. The paintings in the sketchbooks have a fantastic sense of freedom, an energy all of their own.
Barbara found it difficult to translate this energy onto a big scale in the studio so she decided that in order to keep this freedom she would have to paint very large watercolours outside in the same way as she does in a small sketchbook.
She uses one huge piece of paper, one brush and a limited number of colours.
Barbara is interested in the winter landscape with its bare structures and muted colours. Because she has been painting outside in the cold she has been forced to work fast, recording the structures and colours in a simple way. The resulting paintings are full of energy, space and simplicity.
Barbara lives and works in the UK. Contact.
